  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior.
  • Discontinue blood-thinning medications/supplements (Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Gingko, Garlic, Flax Oil, etc.) for 3–7 days prior unless prescribed by your physician.
  • Avoid Retin-A, glycolic/salicylic acids, or exfoliants for 2–3 days before treatment.
  • Do not schedule your appointment if you have an active infection, rash, or cold sore in the treatment area.
  • If prone to cold sores, ask your provider if a preventive antiviral prescription is appropriate.
  • Arrive with clean skin—no makeup, sunscreen, lotion, or oils.

Post-Care

  • Remain upright for 4 hours after injections.
  • Avoid touching, rubbing, or applying pressure to treated areas for 24 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, alcohol, and facials for 24 hours.
  • Small bumps or redness at injection sites usually resolve within a few hours.
  • Mild headache or tenderness may occur; Tylenol can be used if needed.
  • Do not schedule other facials, laser treatments, or chemical peels in the treated area for at least 2 weeks.
  • Results begin to appear in 3–5 days, with full effect visible at 2 weeks.

Follow-Up & Maintenance

Dermal Fillers

Before Your Treatment

  • You should be in good overall health.
  • If you develop a cold sore, blemish, or rash near the treatment area, please reschedule.
  • If you are prone to cold sores, let us know in advance—we may prescribe preventive medication.
  • Schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks before any special event or vacation.

Avoid the following 3 days–1 week before treatment:

  • Aspirin, Motrin (ibuprofen), Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or other essential fatty acids (these increase bruising/bleeding).
  • Alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplements, high-sodium foods, high-sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods, and smoking (24–48 hours prior).
  • Retin-A: discontinue use 2 days before treatment.

Tylenol (acetaminophen) may be taken if needed for mild discomfort.

After Your Treatment

  • Avoid touching, pressing, rubbing, or manipulating the treated areas for at least 6 hours.
  • Cold compresses may be applied immediately to reduce swelling.
  • Makeup may be applied after icing and once pinpoint bleeding has stopped.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for 3 days.
  • Discontinue Retin-A for 2 days after treatment.
  • Continue to avoid alcohol, caffeine, Niacin, high-sodium foods, high-sugar foods, refined carbs, spicy foods, and smoking for 24–48 hours after treatment.

What to Expect During Treatment

  • Treatment time varies depending on the area—sessions may last from one hour to several hours.
  • A vacuum applicator draws tissue into a cooling panel. This may cause sensations of pulling, tugging, or pinching in the treated area.
  • You may also experience tingling, stinging, aching, or cramping—these sensations typically subside as the area becomes numb.

Immediately After Treatment

  • The treated area may look or feel stiff. Temporary whitening of the skin (blanching) can occur.

  • It is common for the treated area to feel bloated or swollen for several days or weeks
  • The treated skin may feel numb to the touch for 2–4 weeks, and typically returns to normal within 4 weeks.

  • Your body will continue to naturally process and eliminate the treated fat cells for up to 4 months after your procedure.

Who Cannot Undergo Emsculpt

Emsculpt is not recommended if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have epilepsy
  • Have a cardiac pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, medication pump, or other electronic/metal implants
  • Have had recent surgery in the treatment area (including a C-section within the last year)
  • Have a copper/metal IUD (Paragard) in the treatment area

Before Your Treatment

  • Wear comfortable clothing so that treatment areas can be easily accessed.
  • Notify your provider if you have metal implants, pacemakers, or recent surgery in the treatment area.
  • Notify your provider if you are pregnant or nursing.

What to Expect During Treatment

  • Each session lasts 20–30 minutes, depending on the treatment area.
  • The procedure feels like an intense workout, but you can relax during the session and should not feel significant discomfort.
  • No downtime is required—you can return to normal activities immediately.
  • A typical treatment course includes four sessions scheduled 2–3 days apart.

After Your Treatment

  • You may resume normal activities right away.

Pre-Care

  • Arrive with clean skin: no lotion, makeup, perfume, powder, or bath/shower oils on the treatment area

Contraindications

Sofwave is not recommended if you have or are:
  • Open facial wounds, lesions, or active skin disease
  • Severe or cystic acne on the face or neck
  • Electrical devices or metal implants in the treatment area
  • Allergies to topical numbing agents
  • Pregnant, breastfeeding, or a child

Post-Care

  • Do not shave the treatment area immediately before your appointment.
  • Skin should not have significant changes such as excess dryness, irritation, or sunburn
  • If you have a history of cold sores, take an antiviral medication for 2 days prior and the day of treatment.
  • Arrive with clean skin—no lotion, oil, makeup, powder, perfume, or sunscreen.
  • Inform your provider of any changes in medical history or medications you are currently taking.

Post-Care (First 3 Days)

  • Wash your face 3x daily with a gentle cleanser.
  • Use only hyaluronic acid and vitamin C serum on treated skin.
  • Expect redness, sensitivity, and/or bruising—this is normal.
  • You may use a cool compress if needed for comfort.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications (Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil), as these can interfere with the natural inflammatory process critical for skin rejuvenation. Tylenol may be used if needed.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or sweating for 24 hours.

After 3 Days

Laser Hair Removal Cannot Be Performed If You:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have tanned or recently sun-exposed skin, including spray tans or tanning bed use within 2 weeks prior to treatment
  • Are using photo-sensitizing topical medications or have taken oral photo-sensitizing medications
  • Have an active infection, breakout, or rash in the treatment area
  • Have used Isotretinoin (Accutane®) within the past 6 months
  • Have tattoos in the treatment area (laser cannot be used directly over tattoos)

Pre-Care

  • Discontinue any photo-sensitizing oral medications (such as certain antibiotics) at least 2 weeks prior.
  • Shave the entire area to be treated before your appointment.
  • Avoid tanning of any kind for 2 week prior:
